A Brief discription of our route on the HERO Icelandic Saga

The route will take crews to where Jules Verne based the start of Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Steam vents, lava flows, active and inactive volcanoes, spectacular waterfalls, geysers and glaciers are what everyone thinks of when they picture Iceland and you will not be disappointed. Whilst we can’t take you close to an active volcano, you will see Hekla from nearby and visit such places as Gullfoss (one of the largest waterfall in Europe), Thingvallir  (where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are moving apart producing the most spectacular rift, and where the very first Icelandic Viking parliament was held), Geyser (where all other geysers in the world take their name), Jokulsarlon (the glacier lagoon used in several Holywood films including two James Bond films, Batman Begins & Tomb Raider), and the Blue Lagoon (probably the most famous of all the thermal pools open to the public). We will also take you close to Eyjafjallajokul which became famous in 2010 when the volcano beneath the glacier erupted and grounded most European flights.
